Sacredness of the Mundane

Talk Notes Sacredness of the Mundane One of the greatest lies of the enemy is trying to get you to believe that your ordinary, everyday faithfulness and obedience are not enough to bring about significant kingdom impact. "It is pure invention that the Pope, bishops, priests, and monks are called the "spiritual estate" while princes, lords, artisans, and farmers are called the "temporal estate". This is indeed a piece of deceit and hypocrisy. Yet no one need be intimidated by it, and that for this reason: all Christians are truly of the spiritual estate, and there is no difference among them except that of office... We are all consecrated priest by baptisms as St Peter says: "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood.” Martin Luther 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” "We are to be gardeners who take an active stance toward their charge. They do not leave the land as it is. They rearrange it in order to make it most fruitful, to draw the potentialities for growth and development out of the soil. They dig up the ground and rearrange it with a goal in mind: to rearrange the raw material of the garden so that it produces food, flowers, and beauty. And that is the pattern for all work. It is creative and assertive. It is rearranging the raw material of God's creation in such a way that it helps the world in general, and people in particular, thrive and flourish.” Tim Keller Work: Rearranging the raw material of God's creation in such a way that it helps the world in general, and people in particular, thrive and flourish. 1 Corinthians 10:31 Paul says… “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: take your everyday, ordinary life- your sleeping, eating, going to work, and walking around life and place it before God as an offering. The Message “We live in a world with no compartments. For those who are spiritual - who are filled with the active, dynamic Spirit of God himself - the line between heaven and earth is thin at best. The sacred is never far away. And your job, your career, or whatever it is you do all day long, isn’t something outside of Jesus’ calling on your life - it’s right at the center of it.” John Mark Comer One of the greatest lies of the enemy is trying to get you to believe that your ordinary, everyday faithfulness and obedience are not enough to bring about significant kingdom impact. "Everyone wants to be successful rather than forgotten, and everyone wants to make a difference in life. But that is beyond the control of any of us. If this life is all there is, then everything will eventually burn up in the death of the sun and no one will even be around to remember anything that has happened. Everyone will be forgotten, nothing we do will make any difference, and all good endeavors, even the best, will come to naught. Unless there is a God. If the God of the Bible exists, and there is a True Reality beneath and behind this one, and this life is not the only life, then every good endeavor, even the simplest ones, pursued in response to God's calling, can matter forever." Tim Keller

From Series: "A Better Story"

We love a good story! Something that captures our imaginations and takes us somewhere. Something that gives our lives meaning, context, and hope. Unfortunately, we often get so caught up in trying to write our own story that we lose our God-given purpose. We trade a life of eternal kingdom impact for the temporary and empty rewards of our own desires. In this series, we will lay down our story for a better story and be intentional about leaving a legacy of kingdom impact and purpose.
