Disruptive Discipleship

DISRUPTIVE DISCIPLESHIP 6.15.21 One of the key factors of spiritual growth and formation in your life will be pain and disruption. Each step of growth and formation will require a new level of surrender. 3 Chairs of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation: CHAIR #1: SEEKER Mark 1:16-17 16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Peter and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”18 At once they left their nets and followed him. 3 Chairs of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation: 3 Chairs of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation: CHAIR #2: BELOVED Matthew 16:13-16 13When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 3 Chairs of Discipleship and Spiritual Formation: CHAIR #3: PURPOSE Often, your greatest purpose in life will be found on the other side of your greatest pain and your greatest struggle. Luke 22:31-33 31 “Peter, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.32But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” 33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” John 21:15-17 15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” 17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” John 21:17-19 17 Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”
