City Youth Parents & Guardians Portal

If you’re a parent, guardian, or in some way connected to students, we hope this serves as a quality resource to you. This page is jam-packed with content to help you engage your student in their pursuit of Jesus. Our goal is to see students become fascinated with Jesus. That is why we exist & we hope to help you in the process of seeing that take root in your student’s lives.

WEEKLY CUE

We want to do a better job of bridging the gap between what takes place on a weekly basis at City Youth and what takes place at home. So, every Wednesday night we have service, around 6:55PM, we’ll send out the Weekly Cue as a resource for you to engage your student in what took place at City Youth that night.

THE PURPOSE OF CITY YOUTH

CY VISION – TO SEE STUDENTS BECOME FASCINATED WITH JESUS.

CY MISSION – LIVE LIKE JESUS IN COMMUNITY AND DEVOTED TO HIS WORD SO WE MAY SEE OUR LIVES AND OUR CITY TRANSFORMED.

4 FOCUSES OF CITY YOUTH

  1. INCREASED FASCINATION

  2. COMMUNITY

  3. SERVING

  4. FUN

INCREASED FASCINATION

Any time we talk about the “whys” of City Youth it will always surround becoming fascinated with Jesus. Fascinated is a word you can’t fake. You can’t convince yourself to be fascinated. You can’t force yourself to be fascinated. It doesn’t work. Fascination takes place when a detail about something captivates you and you are irresistibly drawn to it. That is the ultimate goal of City Youth & everything we do focuses on seeing that take place. Obviously, you can’t force someone into being fascinated, so we believe the best we can do is in simply create spaces for fascination to bloom.

COMMUNITY

This is absolutely imperative & is something we must become extremely intentional about. In our pursuit of Jesus there must be a place for both solitude and community. A man by the name of Dietrich Bonhoeffer puts it best, “Let him who cannot be alone beware of community… Let him who is not in community beware of being alone… Each by itself has profound perils and pitfalls. One who wants fellowship without solitude plunges into the void of words and feelings, and the one who seeks solitude without fellowship perishes in the abyss of vanity, self-infatuation and despair.” We must have both in order to thrive in the way the Lord desires us to live. Community is not only hanging out, it is living life together and pushing one another towards Jesus.

SERVING

All throughout the Bible we see Jesus calling us beyond ourselves. Since a life focused on others isn’t a default for anyone, we are highly intentional in creating those opportunities in hopes that it does.

FUN

Having fun is insanely important! We wholeheartedly believe you can’t go deep with a student until you’ve had fun with them. Fun is the gateway into student’s hearts. So because of that, we like to have as much fun as possible!

BRINGING IT HOME

PRIORITIZE THEIR INVOLVEMENT

No one accidentally develops something that requires intentionality. So in the same way, your student will not accidentally become fascinated with Jesus. Everything that we do is done to see this goal become a reality. We believe that all it takes is consistency and Jesus will captivate their hearts. So all we have to do is be faithful to ensure the seed is on good soil.

ENGAGE THEIR PROCESS

Obviously the goal is that their faith would not stay at the church service, but it would flow into their everyday lives. True transformation. So engage their process. Take advantage of the parent cues. Discuss what the Lord is doing in their lives. Use what you get. If their response is, “yeah service was good.” and after a few questions you don’t get much else, no sweat. The last thing we want to do is to teach them their response must be disingenuous to where they are truly at. Just because they might not give the response you want doesn’t mean that the Lord isn’t doing something in their lives. You will see the fruit!

CELEBRATE THEIR GROWTH

This is a huge one. Call out the things you see them growing in. Affirmation will always be a motivator for those receiving it.
